A photo is often all you have — a screenshot from a dating app, a face in a group picture, a profile shot with no username attached. Face recognition is the one search that takes that as a starting point instead of a dead end.
What you need to start
One photo where the face is visible. Not a name, not a username, not an email address — the face is enough, and it is the only thing this search needs.
Screenshots count. A photo of a screen counts. A group shot counts, as long as the face you want is big enough to make out.
The search, step by step
- Upload the photo. If several people are in it, crop to the one you want first.
- The face is measured and compared against public profile pictures across the major social platforms.
- Matches come back ranked by confidence, each with a link to the live profile.
- Open the top matches and check them against what you already know — other photos, a city, a job, mutual friends.
When it works and when it does not
It works best on an adult with an ordinary public presence: someone with a profile picture on at least one open account. That covers most people most of the time.
It struggles on faces that are turned away, obscured or very small in the frame, and it cannot reach anyone whose accounts are all private. A search that finds nothing usually means there is nothing public to find, not that the person does not exist.
Results should always be verified by hand. Faces repeat — siblings, doubles, bad lighting — and a confidence score is a starting point, not an identification.
What to do once you have a match
- Compare at least two other photos on the profile against the one you started with.
- Check whether the account's history is consistent: age, posting record, people in the comments.
- If it is a catfish check and the photos belong to someone else entirely, report the fake account to the platform and keep the links.
- If something about the situation feels unsafe, stop and tell someone before you take it further.
Use it the way it is meant to be used
This is a verification tool. Confirming that a stranger is real before you meet them, checking a seller, finding your own photos, reconnecting with someone — all fair.
Monitoring a partner, tracking someone who has asked to be left alone, or using a result to harass anyone is not, and it is not what we built. Our editorial policy covers removal requests from people who do not want to be findable here.

If they have a public profile picture somewhere, usually yes. If every account they have is private, no tool can reach them, and that is the honest limit of face search.
About a minute. The face scan is the fast part; reading the results properly is what takes you longer.
No. Face recognition matches on facial structure, so an older photo still works. Very large gaps in age, and photos from childhood, are the cases where it falls down.
Yes, and it is what most people are here for. Crop to the face, drop the crop in, and compare what comes back against the profile you were sent.
Try a clearer photo of the same person before anything else. If a second good photo also returns nothing, the likely answer is that there is no public photo of them to match.
Yes. The person you search is never notified and has no way to see that a search happened.
